Looking for a relaxing and scenic drive through western Maryland? Why not explore the Garrett County Barn Quilt Trail? This unique trail takes you through the beautiful countryside of Garrett County, where you can see over 48 hand-painted wooden quilt squares scattered throughout the area.
Did you know that the tradition of quilting dates back to the early days of American colonization? Settlers would patch together worn blankets, natural fibers, and other textiles to conserve their limited resources. Each quilt had a purpose, but each piece of fabric used had a story, from where it came from or how it was acquired.
Like quilts themselves, barn quilts reflect a collection of traditions, history, and community. The Garrett County Barn Quilt Trail is a wonderful way to learn more about the local history and traditions of the area, while enjoying a scenic drive through the countryside.
If you're interested in exploring the Garrett County Barn Quilt Trail, you can find a trail map and other information at www.garrettbarnquilts.org. So grab your map and hit the road to discover the unique and beautiful quilt squares of Garrett County!
